George Cowcher

George is cabinet member for Planning and Economic Development and councillor for Wellesbourne South

George says, ‘It is good to be back living in Wellesbourne and once again having the time to serve my neighbours here’.

George was a very effective Councillor for Wellesbourne and for over 10 years led the Liberal Democrats on the County Council. He managed to fight for and get funding for the Wellesbourne by-pass. Promised by the Conservatives for 20 years and never delivered, a fire station for the village and the adoption by the County Council of all the street lights in the village, saving money for every council tax payer in the village.

George Cowcher was born at the Monroe Devis Maternity Home in Tiddington and first lived at Clifford Chambers. His parents both worked for the NFU Mutual in Stratford. He has a degree in Town and Country Planning from Newcastle Upon Tyne University and had a career working for local authorities and IDC in Stratford before holding senior appointments with both the South West and North East Regional Development Agencies, lastly being Chief Executive of large Chambers of Commerce in the North East, East Midlands and South West.
