Make the Birmingham Road safer!

Cllr Lorraine Grocott is calling on Warwickshire County Council to urgently speed up the improvements to the layout of the Justins Avenue and Oakleigh Road junctions joining the A3400 Birmingham Road. 

Turning right out of Justins Avenue or Oakleigh Road onto the busy Birmingham Road requires drivers to cross or merge into fast-moving traffic, often with restricted sightlines caused by parked cars, street furniture, or queuing vehicles. On top of this, drivers attempting to turn right into or out of Justins Avenue and Oakleigh Road frequently block oncoming lanes or tail back into residential streets, adding further gridlock to the A3400 corridor. Redesigning these exits would make the Birmingham Road safer and less congested.

She is demanding that Warwickshire County Council speed up the completion of their safety assessment and public consultation to implement structural layout improvements, including:
1) Junction redesign & re-marking: Re-evaluate line markings, hatched areas, and turn lanes to safely separate turning vehicles from flow traffic.
2) Traffic control & priority measures: Consider signalisation, "Left Turn Only" restrictions during peak hours, or mini-roundabout configurations to mitigate right-turn hazards.
3) Parking restrictions & visibility clearances: Extend double yellow lines around the immediate junction corners to preserve clear sightlines for drivers emerging onto Birmingham Road.
