Lib Dem Council Champions Community Investment
Lib Dem run Stratford-on-Avon District Council has given a combined £46,000 to three projects as part of their Community Grants Scheme.
The scheme, set up after the 80th anniversary of VE day, is designed to provide funding to local community projects and assets across the District.
The first round of Small Grant applications, for projects seeking between £5,000 and £20,000, closed in January.
The projects funded were as followed:
- 1st Shottery Scouts - £10,606 for new electrics and insulation at the Scout Hut.
- Brailes Village Hall - £20,000 for a new kitchen.
- Southam Town Council - £15,425.29 to improve acoustics at the Flying Fields Community Centre.
Cllr Liz Coles, Cabinet member for Housing and Customer Services, said:
“It is brilliant to see these local community assets get the funding they need to grow and better support their local community.”
“Community groups are the glue that holds our communities together. I’m proud that we are able to support these projects, and will support even more in the future. The Community Grant Scheme has attracted almost 60 applications for both the small and large grants, with funding requests amounting to more than £2 million. It is very impressive to see the amount of thriving community organisations in our area who would like support to expand.”
“It’s a privilege to be able to fund this in the honour of the 80th anniversary of VE and VJ day, for our brave service men and women who gave so much to our country. We will continue to run the Council effectively so we have more to give back to our fantastic communities.”
